Bengkung Belly Binding

Bengkung belly binding is an ancient Malaysian tradition that supports the womb, muscles, and organs throughout the physical healing process in the postpartum period. This technique involves wrapping a long strip of cloth to wrap the abdomen from the hips to the ribcage. Birth parents are traditionally wrapped as soon as possible after birth, and then worn for a 40 day period. The wrap feels like a firm, secure hug around the womb.

Benefits of belly binding include:

  • reparation of diastisis recti

  • abdominal support

  • prevents back pain by activating postural muscles

  • decreases postpartum bleeding duration and water retention

  • encouraging involution of the uterus

  • and more
